The Storytelling quilt
Artist Sara Fernandez worked with participants to make a Storytelling quilt.
In March 2023, Sara led two workshops attended by storytellers, story collectors, story editors, volunteers and staff from a range of Storytelling partners.
Each participant created a patch inspired by a different story, which Sara then sewed together into a quilt.
The quilt reflects the beauty and character of each individual story, the many voices woven into the fabric of our city, and the nuanced connections that emerge when we listen and learn together. It shows how something can be both beautiful and useful, arrived at through a meaningful process with collaboration at its heart.
The artists who made this quilt are comprised of staff, volunteers and clients from organisations including African Families in the UK, Crisis Skylight - Oxford, Elmore Community Services, Home-Start Oxfordshire, LEAF (Lived Experience Advisory Forum), Old Fire Station, Oxford City Council and Oxford Hub.
