Rekindle

Rekindle Storytelling Evaluation

Rekindle is an Arts Council England funded project that aims to support library
workers to develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge to programme high-quality
touring productions in library spaces. Between April 2023 and March 2026, it paired
community-touring partners with regional library services to build mutually beneficial
relationships and to establish an enduring legacy of cultural programming in libraries
around the country. The project is led by Creative Arts East (CAE) in partnership with
Norfolk Library Service, and four other pairings: Farnham Maltings and
Buckinghamshire Library Service; Applause and Medway Library Service; Spot
On Lancashire
and Blackburn with Darwen Library Service; Black Country
Touring and Sandwell Library Service
.

In 2024, CAE commissioned Old Fire Station, Oxford as project evaluator to train
Rekindle partners in the Storytelling Evaluation Method (Storytelling). Storytelling is a
qualitative learning and evaluation approach inspired by Most Significant Change. It
involves collecting stories from people about their participation in a piece of work
and then bringing other people together for a collaborative analysis of these stories.
We collected ten stories from library staff who had engaged with the Rekindle project
– two from each participating region. The aim of this process is to hear from library
staff in their own words about what this project meant for them.
