The Forensic Recovery College
Storytelling Evaluation
In 2026, The Forensic Recovery College (FRC) used the Storytelling Evaluation Method (Storytelling) to better understand and demonstrate the impact of its work. Storytelling involves gathering stories of people's participation in a project and then bringing other people together to analyse these stories collectively. The aim of this method is to hear from people most closely impacted by a piece of work, in their own voice and words, and to think together about what we can learn from their experience.
In May 2026, the Old Fire Station, Oxford facilitated a discussion with participants, including FRC staff and other stakeholders, to reflect on the stories gathered and consider what they reveal about the Recovery College's impact. The themes and recommendations presented in this report are drawn from that discussion.
The findings are grounded in the stories of nine individuals who chose to take part. They provide rich insight into how the Recovery College is experienced, but they are not intended to represent the experiences of all participants or everyone connected to the service. As with all Storytelling evaluations, the greatest value lies in the stories themselves, which are included in full as an appendix to this report.
